I’ve used both, virtualbox works but man is it ever slow on my quad core
Last time I tried virtualbox it was hardly a smooth experience. Importing an appliance was just unhelpful error after unhelpful error until it just told me to recompile my kernel and at that point I just used virt-manager. I was even able to use the same appliances from virtualbox with some conversion.
Virtualbox is so slow. Can't get past windows 10's oobe

my guess is that a memory pool got corrupted, garbled data got inserted into drivers, and now the machines dead
Due to the randomness, it seems like some weird race condition happening. Like the VM state being recovered in a different way each time due to different things I guess loading in in a different order. Or just grossly incompatible guest driver stuff with the virtual hardware causing kernel memory corruption, also with some racey condition. Could even just be the configured virtual hardware got changed somehow so suddenly some driver's just running off the rails trying to interface with something that isn't there anymore. Could be interesting to diagnose, but probably not that interesting/useful if you aren't vmware. :p
